Say Something Nice About Someone

Say Something Nice About Someone

How often do you find yourself in a situation where people are saying mean things about someone else, behind his or her back? It might happen at school, during your soccer or baseball practice, or when you’re playing at a friend’s house.

Be Polite Online

Remember to be respectful of others when you are on the internet. Whether you are writing an email or chatting online or writing on someone's Facebook or My Space page, remember to be kind, as you would if you were speaking to them in person.

Laugh Often

"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin

Laughter makes everything better. Having a sense of humor lightens your burdens, connects you to others, inspires hopefulness and offers a new perspective

KINDNESS SPREADS: Change the world, one person at a time with random acts of kindness

“Carry out a random act of kindness with no expectation of reward safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” – Princess Diana

Treat others how you would like to be treated—that’s my motto in life. I was brought up this way and it has stayed with me until now. The thought of “what’s in it for me?” never really occurred to me if I decided to be “kind.” Often people would say to me “you are so thoughtful,” or “you are so kind.” I often would reflect on that saying—really—it’s just an act of “humanness from one person to the other.” Perhaps because in life I have seen people get hurt, I have heard stories of women being abused, I have grown up watching the injustices of the world that I knew was beyond my control.

TO BE A PATRIOT: The many ways to show patriotism

American flag

The dictionary definition of patriotism is absolute love, commitment, faithfulness and sacrifice for one’s nation. But does that mean that one must be willing to fight the country’s battles, as well as follow and trust the jurisdiction of the government, with no questions or controversy? To me, patriotism means to put all of my effort into making a difference in my nation that symbolizes the foundation of liberty it was built upon.

SLACKTIVIST OR SOCIAL CHAMPION?: Clicking for a cause does more than people think

Woman on computer - Slacktivism

Slacktivist—the derogatory term immediately casts a shadow of low expectations, which, like any form of discrimination, ends up becoming the dominant form of thinking until the truth rises to the surface. The common thinking is that “social champions” (a term Katya Andresen, chief strategy officer of Network for Good, is using to rebrand slacktivists) will devote only as much effort to a cause as it takes to click a mouse.

Newtown Kindness

Newtown Kindess was formed in honor of Charlotte Bacon who lost her life in the Sandy Hook Tragedy

Kindness Pledge

http://www.newtownkindness.org/pledge/

Dear School District,

After the tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School on

December 14, 2013 a group called Newtown Kindness was formed in honor of Charlotte Bacon, a 6-year old girl who lost her life that day.

Our mission is to change the world by fostering compassion in children and inspiring life-long contributors to society. With your help, we can begin to do just that, one simple act of kindness at a time.

Participation in the “Charlotte Bacon” Kindness Bucket Project is simple and is designed to help promote kindness and compassion within our schools.  This “Charlotte Bacon” Kindness Bucket is yours to keep and to help encourage the students to write or illustrate any Act of Kindness they perform.

Each Act of Kindness they submit online automatically enters your school and student into our annual Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness (CBAOK) Awards, to be celebrated on February 22, 2014.

Remember to keep your bucket for next year; the (CBAOK) Awards are something we hope to celebrate for many more years to come.

It is our belief that small and simple acts of kindness can have a profound and powerful effect on future generations – we’re glad you think so, too.

Thank you for your involvement in the “Charlotte Bacon” Kindness Bucket Project. Your participation and display of kindness will always be remembered by our organization “Newtown Kindness” and by the Bacon Family of Newtown, CT.
